Spoons Moving In The Wind

I was out for a walk the other day, and I was suddenly captivated by something I never noticed before. There were metal spoons over my head, in something that looked like an artistic windmill. The spoons were twirling in the wind, and I was mesmerized by how something unseen and invisible, like the wind, had the power to move something with no power in itself. It was like a whiff of energy that one would never see coming.

A spoon is just an object, with no power to move. But as the wind was moving, so were the spoons. The spoons looked like they were carrying “spoonfuls” of power within them. I stood there with my head facing up, to gaze upon the awe-inspiring beauty of their movement.

The spoons were like us, without the power to fulfill the promise. Yet, in their yielded position of rest, the wind carried them in a breathtaking circle. It reminded me of Hebrews 11, and how by faith in God’s power, the invisible becomes visible. It is not of work or effort of our own, but it is by holding a posture of believing that it has already been done, and that we have it.

As we surrender to God in such a way, His power will cause His promises to become seen and visible in our situations. Such an act of wholehearted, childlike trust is not easy, especially when you are in the flames of an urgent crisis. It all comes down to whose message will be believed? Sarah received the fulfillment of promise, even as impossible as it sounded, because she judged that GOD HAS THE POWER TO FULFILL HIS PROMISE.

But when there is no visible way to survive, it can be extremely painful to trust God to be there right when we need it. I have had moments when God promised to send us provisions out of His promise for food, and it came so late. By the time I went to bed at night, there was nothing left, and I was faced with the fear of death.

I was also faced with the foundation of my belief…did I truly believe in God to be faithful to fulfill His vow to me? I didn’t pass that test that specific night, but God saved me and gave me the test again. God showed up first thing in the morning, and He kept His word. It was painful to face such a last minute, life and death experience, but it also gave me a Faith building experience to trust Him better.

Sometimes God will test our faith, so that we can grow to experience and expect His faithfulness. Since God is ever-present, and all-knowing, He will also give us personalized promises, along with the big ones that we all cherish. That is what intimacy is all about, it is like exchanging wedding vows. The more vulnerable we are to trust, the more we will experience.

It is not easy to believe in the invisible power of God to suddenly show up and bring energy to us to help us move, in whatever way we need. But if we will just rest in His words, and close our eyes to the storms of opposition, then we will soon feel the wind brush upon our cheeks, and the ever-present love of God pick us back up all over again.

Sometimes we are met with the storms that flow from our inner fears and unbelief, like the bitter Arctic air mixing with warm, Tropical air, to create turbulence. As long as there is fear and unbelief buried within, then we will face the storms of warfare and opposition. But the Lord once told me that once all fear and doubt are completely gone, then the storms are gone too.

It often takes pushing us into difficult situations for those hidden, dormant fears and unbeliefs to surface and be felt. It is all working in our favor, to bring us into the life that God promised. Even through the turbulence, God is in control, and He is still Sovereign. He will carry you and, like a baby held in His arms, you will be comforted.

Sometimes, the best thing to do is just stand still and rest. There are moments when we don’t have the strength to even exert our child-like imagination, or to believe that we have it. In those moments of feeling the inferno of deep faith testing, don’t overthink, and definitely do not think about your troubles or needs.

Just rest, and close your eyes to the outside world, as you feel God’s loyal love cradling you and carrying you through. Doing nothing is better than using your energy to panic or worry. Faith and fear are both an invisible form of energy, so we must be careful which we choose to listen to. Stillness (Rest, to abide in Love) is the most powerful and prophetic act of trust, especially when your life depends on God showing up with the unseen promise becoming visible.

No matter what you are facing at the moment, God knows, and He is right there with you. Take a deep breath, and exhale out your worries, as you rest upon His Promise. This is a moment of letting go, and letting God. His ever-present power will sweep in, and lift you and carry you through. I pray that God’s ever-present power will show up like the invisible wind, and that you will see the flourishing movement before your eyes, like spoons twirling in the wind. Thank you, Jesus, amen. ❤️
